Got The Moving Blues?

Relocation is one of life’s most stressful events. Some even experience what’s known as a post-move depression. Most cases are mild, but some are more severe and long-lasting. Signs and symptoms may include:

  • depressed or irritable mood most of the day
  • loss of interest or enjoyment in activities
  • changes in appetite and weight
  • too much or not enough sleep
  • constant fatigue
  • difficulty concentrating and making decisions

What To Do

Talk about your problems with someone you trust. Consider seeking professional help if the depression is severe and prolonged. If you are indeed experiencing some “moving blues”, here are a few fun and healthy ways to deal with it:

  • exercise get some sunlight; it will boost your mood
  • watch a sad movie and cry your eyes out
  • rent a funny movie and laugh as hard as you can
  • play a game with your children
  • write a journal expressing your feelings
  • join a club of interest
  • call an old friend
  • make a list of all the things you’re grateful for
  • take a shower and get dressed; sounds simple, but could be an achievement on a particular day.
  • take a bubble bath
  • curl up and read a good book
